In regions like Gabala (Qəbələ), Gakh (Qax), Ismayilli (İsmayıllı), Shamakhi (Şamaxı) and Guba (Quba), guests no longer want just a bed and breakfast — they want an experience. The short answer: a sauna for hotels extends the season, gives guests another reason to book, can earn extra revenue as an add-on service and sets your property apart. The right model depends on scale: a large resort suits an outdoor spa complex, a guest house a cottage sauna, and a glamping site a compact barrel or cube.
Below we look at how a sauna adds value for guests, which model fits which kind of property, and the real projects we’ve built in the regions.
Why saunas are such a draw in Azerbaijan’s regions
A longer season
In the mountain regions summer is short, and autumn and winter evenings are cool. That’s exactly when a sauna becomes the most requested amenity: hot steam with a view of a snowy forest, then a cold plunge — guests suddenly have a strong reason to visit in the off-season.
An extra service and revenue line
A sauna can be included in the room rate, rented by the hour or packaged as a “romantic evening” or “family day” offer. It’s an extra line of business that doesn’t depend only on room occupancy.
Visibility on social media
A wooden barrel sauna at the edge of the forest, or a cabin sauna with a panoramic glass front, is one of the most-shared shots guests post. Every post is free advertising for your property.
Standing out
There are plenty of guest houses in the regions, but not all of them offer a sauna. On booking platforms, the word “sauna” is often the detail that tips a guest’s decision.
Which model fits your property?
| Property type | Suitable model | Capacity | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large hotel or resort | Outdoor spa complex | 4–15 people | Sauna, steam room, hammam and lounge in one building |
| Guest house, villa complex | Cottage sauna | 4–20 people | House-shaped, rooms chosen to suit your needs |
| Scenic plot — mountain or lake view | Cabin sauna | 4–8 people | Panoramic glass facade brings the view inside |
| Glamping, separate cottages | Barrel or cube sauna | 2–6 people | Compact — a private sauna next to each unit |
| Mid-sized guest house | Semi-circular or elliptical sauna | 4–8 people | A roomier take on the barrel shape |
Outdoor spa complex
This is, quite literally, a “5-star-hotel-level private spa in your yard”. One project can combine a sauna room, steam room, salt room, Turkish hammam, broom (venik) room, massage room, hot/cold tub or pool, bathroom and a relaxation room. Ideal for hotels that want to offer a full spa experience.
Cottage sauna
The house-shaped cottage sauna offers the same set of rooms in a more flexible format. It works well for guest houses: start with a sauna room and lounge, and plan the rest of the layout around your needs.
Barrel, cube and cabin saunas
For glamping and standalone cottages, compact models make more sense — a private sauna beside each unit is a premium offer in its own right. A cabin sauna turns the view into the main attraction. See every model on our outdoor saunas page.
Our real projects in the regions
We describe ourselves as the company that built Azerbaijan’s first outdoor saunas, and we’ve already delivered projects across the regions:
- Gabala (Qəbələ) — a barrel sauna and an outdoor spa complex.
- Gakh / Ilisu (Qax / İlisu) — a cube sauna.
- Ismayilli (İsmayıllı) — a cottage sauna.
- Sea Breeze — a cabin sauna.
Photos and details are on our projects page.
What matters in a mountain climate
Humidity, rain, snow and big temperature swings demand more from an outdoor sauna. In ours you’ll find:
- Exterior cladding — water-resistant, thermo-treated red pine “listvenica” (larch), also known as ship timber.
- Interior lining — linden (lipa) by default; cedar, abachi or teak on request.
- Multilayer walls — mineral stone wool insulation plus a special membrane that keeps moisture and steam away from the wooden frame.
- Roofing — tegola bitumen shingles over a strong roofing-felt layer for a double shield; ondulin or profiled metal sheet on other models.
- Adjustable metal bands on barrel saunas, so the body can be re-tightened when the wood naturally shrinks with weather changes.
Planning a hotel sauna: what to consider
- Location. View, guest privacy, distance from the main building and water drainage.
- Heater. An electric heater with a separate control panel lets staff manage temperature and timers; a wood-burning stove creates a traditional atmosphere. More in our heaters section.
- Electrical capacity. If you’re planning several saunas or a spa complex, calculate the load on your supply in advance.
- Capacity and guest flow. How many people will use it at once? Choose the model accordingly.
- Rules and safety. Post usage rules, a clock, drinking water and clear warnings near the sauna.
- Maintenance plan. Make someone responsible for daily cleaning, airing and seasonal checks.
Sauna packages: a few ideas
A sauna is worth more when it’s presented as an offer in its own right, not just an add-on:
- “Winter weekend” — two nights with a sauna and cold plunge every evening.
- “Romantic evening” — a private sauna session for two, herbal tea and dinner.
- “Family package” — a short, lower-temperature session for kids and a lounge for the adults.
- Corporate retreats — a few hours’ booking of the spa complex or cottage sauna for a team.
- Day visitors — hourly rental for people not staying at the hotel.
Show these packages on booking platforms and social media with real photos of the sauna, so guests can see exactly what they’re getting.
Small touches that guests remember
- A set of towels, robes and slippers.
- Herbal tea and fresh water.
- A cold plunge tub or shower.
- LED lighting, Himalayan salt panels, decorative stones.
- Quality accessories: bucket, ladle, thermometer, sand timer.
FAQ
Which sauna suits a small guest house?
A 2–6 person barrel or cube sauna is the easiest choice for a small guest house or glamping site. If you host more guests, consider a 4–8 person cabin or semi-circular sauna, or a cottage sauna.
How much does a sauna for a hotel cost?
Approximate ranges: barrel and cube saunas 6,000–12,000 AZN; cabin, semi-circular and elliptical saunas 8,000–15,000 AZN; cottage saunas 10,000–50,000 AZN; outdoor spa complexes 15,000–45,000 AZN. The exact price depends on size, room set and materials.
Can you install a sauna anywhere in the regions?
Yes, we work across all of Azerbaijan, and we already have projects in Gabala, Gakh/Ilisu and Ismayilli.
Can an outdoor sauna be used in a mountain winter?
Yes — winter is the favourite sauna season. Multilayer insulation, the membrane and a double-layer roof protect the sauna from cold and snow. In freezing weather, just make sure water lines and tubs don’t freeze.
Wood-burning or electric heater for a hotel?
For properties with high guest turnover, an electric heater with a separate control panel is more practical. If atmosphere is the priority and a chimney is possible, a wood-burning stove is a great choice too.
