A cube sauna in Azerbaijan costs roughly 6,000–12,000 AZN and seats 2–6 people. The price depends mainly on size, interior wood, the stove and the glass front. Below we cover sizes and capacity, an honest comparison with the barrel sauna, the pros and cons of the shape, and a real project we built in the mountains of İlisu, Qax.
What is a cube sauna?
A cube sauna is a rectangular, box-shaped outdoor sauna. Unlike a barrel, it has straight walls, usually with softly rounded corners. The shape suits modern architecture and minimalist gardens: a cube looks neat next to the house, on a terrace or out in nature.
It’s built like all our outdoor saunas:
- Exterior — water-resistant, thermally treated larch (“listvenica”, known as ship timber).
- Multilayer wall — mineral stone wool plus a special membrane that keeps moisture and steam away from the timber frame.
- Interior lining — linden by default; cedar, abachi, African abachi or teak on request.
- Roof — tegola shingles over a strong layer of roofing felt for a double shield.
Sizes and capacity
Cube saunas are built for 2 to 6 people. When choosing a size, think about two things: how many people usually bathe together, and whether you want room to lie down.
| Capacity | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 2 people | Couples, small gardens | Most compact, fastest to heat |
| 3–4 people | Families | Two-tier or L-shaped benches |
| 5–6 people | Large families, guest houses | Room to lie down |
| Price | 2–6 people | 6,000–12,000 AZN |
Exact dimensions are designed around your site and bench layout — a cube sauna is a custom project, not an off-the-shelf box.
What affects the price
- Capacity. A bigger cube means more timber, more insulation and a more powerful stove.
- Interior wood. Linden is standard; cedar, abachi or teak cost more. A good compromise: linden walls, abachi benches.
- Glass front. The cube’s signature feature is a fully glazed front wall. On a site with a view, it’s close to essential.
- Stove. Electric or wood-burning — Harvia, SAWO, Teplodar, TMF or Fanlan, sized to the room volume.
- Extras. LED lighting, decorative stones, Himalayan salt panels, accessories.

Cube sauna or barrel sauna?
Both seat 2–6 people and share the same 6,000–12,000 AZN range. The difference is the shape.
| Criterion | Cube sauna | Barrel sauna |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Straight walls, modern look | Round, classic “barrel” |
| Heat-up | Good | Slightly faster (no corners) |
| Interior space | More headroom, easy to lean on flat walls | Ceiling curves down at the sides |
| Glazing | Ideal for a large glass front | Panoramic back wall possible |
| Style | Modern home, terrace, minimalist garden | Natural, rustic, forest and mountains |
Cube sauna pros
- More usable space. Benches run the full length of the flat walls.
- Modern look. It blends easily with contemporary architecture.
- Big glazing. A glass front wall makes the view part of the sauna.
- Comfortable interior. You lean back against a flat wall, and benches can be laid out any way you like.
Cons
- Slightly more volume. For the same bench area, a cube has a bit more air to heat than a barrel, so the stove must be sized correctly.
- Less “barrel charm”. If you want a rustic, storybook feature in your garden, a barrel makes a bigger statement.
Bottom line: choose a cube for a modern home and a great view, a barrel for a natural, classic feel. Read more about the other shape on the barrel sauna page.
Project: a cube sauna in the İlisu mountains (Qax)
One of our cube sauna projects is in the village of İlisu in the Qax district. The sauna stands on a terrace facing the mountains, with a fully glazed front and a tegola-shingle roof. It shows off the cube’s main strength perfectly: you sit on the bench and look straight out at green slopes.
Inside there’s a stove with sauna stones, a wooden bucket, a thermometer and sauna hats. Mountain nights are cool, so the insulated multilayer wall really matters here — the sauna heats up quickly and holds its warmth. See this and other builds on our projects page.
Where to put a cube sauna
- In the garden or yard — on a level, solid, well-drained surface: a concrete slab, paving stones or screw piles.
- On a terrace — as in İlisu; check in advance that the structure can carry the load.
- Next to a pool or hot tub — creating a complete relaxation corner with a cool-down zone.
Planning the interior of a cube sauna
The cube’s flat walls make interior planning easy. The key decisions are:
- Bench layout. Two tiers along one wall, an L-shape or a U-shape. The upper tier is hotter, the lower one gentler.
- Stove position. Usually near the door, at a safe distance from the benches, so heat spreads evenly through the room.
- Glass orientation. You should be able to see the view from where you sit — that’s the cube’s big advantage.
- Lighting. Concealed LED strips under or behind the benches create a soft, calm atmosphere.
- Bench wood. Abachi barely conducts heat, so it stays comfortable to sit on even in a fully heated sauna.
We settle all of these details with you during the design stage.
What to pair with a cube sauna
A cube sauna is a complete retreat on its own, but a few additions make it even better:
- A cool-down zone. A wooden plunge tub, cold-water tub or hot tub nearby for cooling off between rounds.
- Outdoor seating. A small wooden deck or bench in front of the door.
- Accessories. Bucket, ladle, thermometer and sauna hats — the classic set, just like in the İlisu project.
- Evening lighting. Soft light on the facade and along the path makes evening sessions safer and more atmospheric.
You can plan these from day one or add some of them later.
FAQ
How much does a cube sauna cost?
About 6,000–12,000 AZN. A standard 2-person cube sits near the bottom of the range; a premium 6-person one near the top.
How many people does a cube sauna seat?
From 2 to 6. The size is tailored to your site and bench layout.
Is a cube more expensive than a barrel?
No, both are in the same price range. The final figure depends on size, wood, stove and glazing — not the shape.
Can a cube sauna be used in winter?
Yes. The multilayer wall with mineral wool and a membrane lets it heat quickly and keep its warmth in freezing weather.
Can a cube sauna go on a terrace?
Yes, as long as the terrace can bear the weight. The İlisu project stands on a terrace. Send us a photo of your spot and we’ll assess it together.
